Toolkit
What is Adolescent Counselling?
Adolescence is a vital time for mental and physical growth, yet hormonal changes and societal expectations can make it overwhelming. Adolescent counselling at NAS Mindcare is a specialized form of psychotherapy tailored to the unique cognitive and emotional development of teenagers.
We help teens bridge the gap between their inner feelings and their outward behaviour, providing them with a “mental toolkit” to manage stress and develop a healthier sense of self.
The Challenges – What We Treat?
Anxiety & Depression
Treating persistent feelings of hopelessness or social withdrawal common in Kerala’s competitive school systems.
Self-Injury & Emotional Regulation
Providing evidence-based care for teens using self-harm as a way to cope with intolerable emotions.
Social Media & Internet Stress
Navigating the “digital maze” of cyberbullying, unrealistic comparisons, and screen addiction.
Identity & Self-Esteem
Supporting youth as they experiment with roles and seek acceptance beyond social labels.
Academic Pressure & Focus
Managing the stress of exams and the sudden drop in performance linked to underlying mental distress.
Our Methods: Evidence-Based Therapy
Designed for Growing Brains
Because the teen brain is still developing until age 25, our clinicians use flexible, engaging modalities that resonate with young adults:
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
The gold standard for teaching distress tolerance and emotional regulation to prevent self-destructive behaviours.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Identifying and challenging unhelpful “thought logs” and distorted thinking patterns.
Expressive Arts Therapy
Utilizing drawing, music, or journaling for teens who find it difficult to articulate their feelings in words.
Parenting
A Guide for Parents: How to Support Your Teen?
We recognize that parents in India face unique challenges in guiding their children through the digital maze.
- Normalize the Conversation: Reassure your teen that seeking help is a sign of strength, not a failure.
- Listen Without “Fixing”: Focus on validating their experiences rather than jumping straight to solutions.
- Safety Planning: Learn how to create a “safe home” by reducing access to means and increasing open communication.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if my teen is resistant to counselling?+
It is common for teens to be nervous. Suggest an initial “meet and greet” to see if they feel comfortable with the therapist. Remind them that therapy is a confidential space where they are the expert on their own life.
How is teen therapy different from adult therapy?+
Teen therapy is more interactive and present-focused. We use more creative tools (like art or mindfulness) and often incorporate the family system to ensure long-term stability.
How many sessions will my teen need?+
This depends on the individual concern. While some issues resolve in 8-12 sessions, deeper trauma or self-harm recovery may require long-term maintenance to ensure brain development isn’t stunted.
Do you offer online counselling for students?+
Yes. Secure online sessions are available for students, providing a convenient and private option for busy academic schedules.
